Travel Intense

We are planners. So this is our first attempt at
deconstructing our organization-intense travel modus operandi. And where else on
earth would you find a destination more décontractée than the southern
Caribbean?
We'll start there. Could this be
our undoing?

GRENADA EXPLOSION

Not only did I leave my cell phone home, but I apparently left our alarm clock there, too. How very "relaxed" of us. But we still do actually have to meet a plane this morning. The Hairs helped us find the low tech transportation the St. Lucians use, controlling the urge to go with the efficient (and more expensive) private taxi. I can't say we were entirely comfortable with it. The van was fine, it's the decision to go with the unpredictable routing and timetable that's hard.

THIRD LESSON: It will be okay. We stopped at every hairpin turn, rotating through a fascinating variety of passengers from 7-year-olds to Rastafarians, all to the blaring syncopations of Caribbean hip-hop. Yet, amazingly, we made it to the airport on the opposite side of the island with 45 minutes to spare. There's a bizarre charm to losing track of time.
We were intent on making a big splash the minute we arrived in Grenada. Ricky and Alexandra, missionaries near St. George, had our day completely planned...so we didn't have to! This whole movement toward unplugged travel is working for us! We went immediately, as chance would have it, to the very waterfall that you saw in the stock photo I uploaded a few days ago. And made a whole bunch of Grenadian friends in the process.

Dinner the Eszlingers home was complete with homemade New York cheesecake garnished with freshly grated nutmeg from - where else? - the Spice Island!
